The prototypical professional athlete may be looked upon as a physical specimen, one of the strongest and fastest human beings in the world. However, the overlooked mental aspect of an athlete’s make-up might just be the real key to their success. Every successful athlete, including Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, and Bill Russell, has attributed much of their success to their strong psychological make-up.
In order to overcome the trials and tribulations of the sports world, an athlete must possess the attribute of resilience. They must persevere through whatever their opponents throw at them. Drive is the characteristic they have utilized their entire lives to get to this point. Professional athletes are some of the hardest-working people in the world, putting in countless hours in the gym night after night striving to achieve perfection. Additionally, in the heat of the moment, every athlete must remain both confident and calm at all times. They need to believe in themselves and make quick decisions without letting nerves get in the way.
